child development centers will be open for emergency childcare on
Tuesday. All San Diego Unified School District extended day programs
(such as the 6-to-6 Program and all extracurricular activities) and the
other child development centers will be closed.The five centers
will be open to children ages 2 (if they are potty-trained) through 12
from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The centers will be available to district
families, students and employees and emergency workers such as first
responders and health care providers.The centers will accept
children on a first-come, first-served basis until they reach capacity.

All San Diego County public K-12 schools will be
closed Tuesday, Oct. 23, according to the San Diego County Office of
Education. All schools run by the Catholic Diocese of San Diego will
also be closed Tuesday.
Monday, parents of San Diego Unified School District
children may pick up their children any time they wish. Schools are
reporting high absenteeism, including 25 teachers at Scripps Ranch High
School who could not make it to campus due to the fires. District
officials are also working to identify a few child development programs
to be open tomorrow, to serve as child care centers with food and
supervision.
Children at Sweetwater Union High School District may
be picked up by their parents immediately. Schools will stay open
throughout the day and buses will run on their regular schedule. The
district will update information on its Web site, www.sweetwaterschools.org,
or call a special hotline the district will set up after noontime to
provide information in English and in Spanish at 619-585-7985.
Several schools in the South Bay area were closing as of noon
today, said Jim Esterbrooks, a spokesman for the San Diego County
Office of Education. School officials in the Chula Vista Elementary
School District, South Bay Union School District, National School
District, San Ysidro School District and the Coronado Unified School
District were calling parents to notify them that schools were closing.
In Chula Vista, parents may start picking up their children at
all 44 campuses of the elementary school district starting at noon
today, according to Superintendent Lowell Billings. Students do not
have to leave at noon if they cannot get a ride home, Billings said.
