Firestorm 2007 - I.T. Reacts to Disaster!

The 2007 firestorms in San Diego challenged individuals, companies, and government throughout the region. We made it through and now there are lots of "after action" reports, revised disaster plans, and a collective sigh of relief.
AITP presents a panel that offers three different perspectives on the fires, the impacts on their organizations, "heat of battle" notes, and how they each dealt with the "real time" challenges facing their organizations.

Cindy Ireland, Cindy Ireland, Sr. Director, Information Systems for Gen-Probe, will discuss the contingencies she put in place when her DR site was at risk, planning for a potential loss of power, and some of the human issues in this event when more than 60% of her IT staff had personal issues to deal with, and the business also required immediate attention.

Bill Jenkins, IT Operations Manager at Otay Water District, will share his experience in using GIS and GPS technologies to manage resources, as well as how to reconstruct and operate a disaster operations center when his became unavailable.

Bill Norris, IT Director at 2-1-1 San Diego, will discuss how his organization increased its information service capacity by 7000% in less than 72 hours and utilized government and private sector partnerships to operate the information center that served the victims all eight fires.
